What should I do?

What Should I do if my weight is in the normal range?

If your weight is in the normal range, Congratulations! Keep doing what you do. Maintain your BMI in the normal range. Check your weight periodically. Even when you are healthy, you should consult your Primary Care Physician for preventative screening tests and steps to prevent disease.

What should I do if I am overweight or underweight?

You should take steps to lose (or gain) weight to reach the normal BMI range 19 – 25. You can do this by understanding your “ideal body weight” for your height, understanding the relationship between calories and body weight, measuring the calories you eat and estimating the calories you burn everyday. If you eat more calories than you spend, you will gain weight. If you eat less calories than you spend, you will gain weight.

Follow these three simple steps:

  1. Calculate your “ideal body weight” for your height.
  2. Find the difference between your current weight and the “ideal weight”. This is the amount of weight you need to lose (or gain) to reach your “ideal body weight.”
  3. Measure the calories you eat and spend to achieve net negative/ positive balance as required. Aim to lose (or gain) 500 calories every day to achieve 1 pound of weight loss (or gain) in a week. Keep doing it everyday until you reach your ideal weight.

Understand the relationship between calories and weight.
